Double page spread image choices
These are the images of my artist that I have used on the double page spread. In both images his poses are demonstrating what hip-hop artists usually do. His outfit is being shown through medium shot on the left to show the 'swag' of a male hip-hop artist. On the right I shot a medium close up to show him slouching and using hand gestures. In both images he is using direct gaze to engage with the readers. He looks laid-back and may show how his approach to music is.
Audience research analysis
The questions that I asked in my market research were: what catches your eye on a magazine, what music genre do you listen to, what colour you associate with this genre, have you ever purchased a music magazine, how much would you be willing to spend, and how often do you buy a music magazine.
For the first question: What catches your eye on a magazine?, the results showed the 54.55% were most attracted to the artist on the front cover. For my front cover I will make the artist the most important thing on the cover.
For my second question: What music genre do you listen to?, the results showed the 54.55% listened to RNB and 36.36%. From the data I gathered, I was able to know what type of magazine that I wanted to show to my focus group and also what genre I wanted to do for my music magazine.
For my third question: What colour you associate with this genre? the results
showed that the highest colours were black, red and blue. From this I have given a thought as to what colours I will be using for my front cover.
For my fourth question: Have you ever purchased a music magazine?, the results showed that majority of the people that I asked answered yes. Majority of my target audience said no and this showed me that many teenagers don't read magazines.
For my fifth question: How much would you be willing to spend, the results showed that most people said £1-2 which shows teenagers don't want to spend a lot of money on magazines. This give me a rough idea of how much to price my music magazine.
For my last question: How often do you buy music magazines?, the results showed that 80% of the people who answered said they had never bought a music magazine. This correlates with the results of some of the other questions.

PEER ASSESSING REALLY
This is my double page spread so far. I have been peer assessing
it by feedback from my target audience. The feedback has been positive although feel
the layout is not strong enough and eye catching therefore I’m still in the
process of development of any changes I may be thinking about now.

CONTENT PAGE COLOUR CHOICES
The colour scheme for my content page is very obvious as you can see an it is based on my front
cover, to the magazine to follow the same colour scheme so that you can tell it’s
from the same magazine also my target audience has allot to do with the colour
scheme because these are the colours that go with my type of genre, which is UK
rap hip hop and the feedback on the colours has been great as in my decision
for using these colours for my magazine.
Content page layout
For
the construction of my contents page I used my flat plan and also the design of
the vibes magazine content page to help create mine. It gave me a direction
from my flat plan I got the positioning of where and how I wanted it to look but
used the other content page to decide on how the features would work and how it
would go.
I decided to make
the outlines of the magazine to work around it, the lines are what going to
hold the numbers and also the contact details, like twitter and face book so I
can add those later where I have created them.
This a print
screen to show how I created a new layer to stamp the actual magazine masthead
on the content and I created this by using the opacity tool which decreases the
way in which it stands out so by decreasing it so there you will be able to see
it clear enough, but will not block other texts but will be allowed to see
anything that is on it or underneath it.
That is a print screen of what my content page looks like in
this moment of time. My content layout is slightly the same of what I wanted it
to look like at the other content page and how I planned for it to be in flat
plan. I made some changes though in terms of how I will change the layout as I
add in the text and images through creating my content page. But if I change
anything or difference it will be because my targe5t audience it will appeal to
them or they have given me feed back.
Contents Page Image Choices
The content
page I am trying to create has great mind behind it. I only wanted one image on
my content page because I want to focus on the originality and homey life of
the London and I want that to be expressed through the contents page and my
main artist.
This is an
image of another artist, which would feature in my contents page. I took
numerous amounts of shots, at different angles and also different poses. Some
turned out to be quite good, however some images were rather blurry and unable
to use. I wanted the indie artist look to remain consist throughout the
magazine, although it had been quite difficult.
The Artist,
who I was taking photos of for me, is an UK but is a huge fan of the UK hip hop
music himself and buys music magazines monthly. I asked his opinion of the
photos, and he said sometimes the photos on those magazines are not right and
to force and not free enough and just really looks like stiff. So he was also
giving advice on how the shots should be taken where he felt most comfortable.
Due to this we got a range of shots from different angles and also different
locations.
Contents Page Research/ Deconstruction
This is the
deconstruction of my content page, in which this content page should determine
the route of how my content page will turn out.
This
content page is from Vibe magazine which has different varies of genres
including hip hop artist from America and England. I chose this content page
because I favoured the layout and how it would fit the genre specifically.
The
image of the main artist of the article fits the style of the content page and
that what I had in mind with mine. The way the artist is positioned on the page
is attention grabbing which I want with that kind of effect.
The
masthead I also like the way it is on the page I am definitely taking that into
the effect with my content page not so much the colours because they don’t really,
fit into my type of genre colours exact.
The
features on the page I am going to use the layout in which the features on the
magazine but put it slightly up the page to give a better effect and bolder
then on this magazine.
Also
I like the big ‘V’ that is on kayne west but that is representing for vibe
magazine so I need to create something similar to that but more for my genre.

FRONT COVER FEATURES
One of my other features is talking about the history of UK Rap/Hip-Hop. This gives a background to the genre and makes my target audience who are interested in this genre feel as if they get to know all about the genre and learn about some of the artists that were before this time.
I have put in a graphic details on how to get the magazine delivered to your door. My target audience is for teenagers and teenagers are mainly on their phones so by including this on the front cover, I'm relating to my audience and using technology to let the magazine seem more reachable. I put the twitter and facebook on the front cover as it's easily accessable for teenagers and they can view it on their phones.
Another feature that I have put on the front cover is the pull quote. The pull quote says 'do it your way and aim for the skies'. I have used a lyric as a pull quote to link in with it being a music magazine. It shows the ambition that the artist has to achieve their goal as a rapper.
